The differences between conventional almond farms and regenerative ones are so stark, you can tell just by looking at them. Regenerative farms plant blooming cover crops and ground cover to protect the soil and the bees. And that's just the start.
Bees are instrumental to almond growth — so it only makes sense that to grow almonds is to love bees. And the feeling is mutual: almond pollen provides all 14 of the essential amino acids bees need.
While conventional almond farms have a bare, hard floors, regenerative farms put more organic matter into the soil, building the microbial community. This allows for continuous living roots to grow in the soil.
Regenerative almond farms have complex, functional systems of water storage. One of these systems is to flood the field during the winter and let water sink into the ground. This allows orchards to better cope with inconsistent weather and because of this, almond farms have 6x faster water infiltration.
LÄRABAR is proud to partner with American Farmland Trust to empower and support women in farming. We also administer and deliver mini grants for on-the-ground regenerative agriculture practices, and host educational events to help female farmers implement these practices.
